Nepean implements the Early Years Numeracy program across the Primary Department. The program has been modified and adapted to allow our students to experience success, develop confidence and enjoyment of mathematical activities. Students are provided with a wide range of tasks and activities in the areas of Number, Chance and Data, Measurement and Space.
The Early Years Numeracy program is fundamental in developing students understanding of and experience with maths concepts, such as size, colour, shape, time, distance and location. Staff implement a number of strategies to numeracy, including 'hands on' tasks, group activities, written tasks and verbal activities. Whilst students work in whole group activities, particular emphasis is given to small group learning centers and individualized instruction.
Numeracy
programs are well supported by the extensive range of equipment and resources available at Nepean , including computer software, games, scales, counters, books, posters, weights, measures and calculators.
