English
Our English curriculum provides students with the opportunity to experience positive and successful learning across the English strands of Reading, Writing, Spelling and Speaking & Listening.
Students work towards developing individualised communication systems that will allow them to develop and extend their literacy skills. We foster a functional literacy approach that sees students engaging in purposeful and relevant literacy learning they can take beyond school and into their adult lives.
Teachers, speech pathologists and occupational therapists work collaboratively to design and implement engaging literacy programs. A variety of approaches are used including Magic 100 Words, sensory stories and THRASS. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies, along with Information and Communication Technologies are also used to foster students’ engagement with and access to the English curriculum.
